The Grocery Game
I’m trying a new system to reduce our grocery bill. I heard about the grocery game at work and decided to try it. Today I went to the store and saved $25.18. Not bad for my first try!
It costs about $1.25 per week. You put in your zip code and then choose the store you shop at. You can also choose more than one store, even drug stores (for an additional cost). They give you a list of sale items in the store plus where to find manufacturer coupons. It helps to stockpile some items.
Drawstring Bag

I feel like I’ve been working on this forever! Although not perfect, the drawstring does work.
I used fabric from an old pillowcase to line it. I sewed buttons on the fabric to hold the lining in place (a trick I found online).
This Year’s Garden
Posted by Deborah in Uncategorized on June 1st, 2008
I originally planted the garden the first weekend of May. Yesterday, Chris and I rearranged it to make it more manageable. We also added some pots. We have 4 tomato, 1 cucumber, 1 Nasturtium, thyme, rosemary, basil, lettuce, and green onions in the garden. In the pots there are dill, jalapeno peppers, parsley, and chives.
Knitting

I have been knitting like crazy! Scarves….a person can probably have too many so I’ve decided to try other articles of clothing.
I recently purchased a Knifty Knitter to make hats. It’s really easy. You can make other things with it too.
Eventually, I am going to try to knit other things as well.
Porch in Fall

Fall is almost here! Can’t wait until the leaves start changing. Chris and I picked up some of these items at Southern States. Chris built the small bench in about 20 minutes.
Garden Update
Posted by Deborah in Uncategorized on August 13th, 2007
The garden has produced a lot this year. We have several tomatoes, abundant lettuce, many green beans. The basil is still growing and I have dried some. Green bell peppers look full size, but they are still too strong for my taste. The cucumber plant, however, has died.
The carrots are still extremely small, so they might not be ready until fall.
I made a pot of green beans last night and they were so good! I took my Mom’s advice and let them simmer for about an hour and added a few slices of bacon to the pot for flavor.
